Is anyone else still feeling the holiday guilt? I mean, I know we’re halfway into January now but I can’t be the only one who’s holding onto those few pounds of “holiday cheer”, as it were. 

I’m not sure you can tell by my previous posts, but generally I’m a pretty healthy guy. I mean for a guy who smokes and drinks to much, I’m a pretty healthy guy (I don’t really smoke that much anymore, I’ve switched to e-cigarettes and I’ll swear by them).

Okay, NUTRITIONALLY speaking, I’m a pretty healthy guy. 

So what does a “pretty healthy guy” turn to when it’s time to leave the sins of Thanksgiving/Christmas/NewYear by without looking back?

Simple, he gets his ass back into the gym and yoga studio and starts juicing and blending the crap out of things. 

I made this smoothie this morning. It has the immense nutritional profiles of beets and avocado along with the mild sweetness of red apples and, finally, add a spoonful of grated ginger for a bit of a kick. 

A word on juicing: juicing is an off thing for me. On one hand I like the convenience of getting all the nutrients out of a beet or a carrot in a fee gulps but on the other hand my body doesn’t take too kindly on the torrent of goodness that suddenly accosts it. Also, my body is prone to sugar spikes and fruits and veggies like beets are full of sugar. You have you listen to what your body needs. So in this recipe I blended the juice of the apple and the beet with an avocado, which does two things: First of all the avocado is high in fiber which prevents the sugar spikes of the juiced beet and apple. Second, it gives your smoothie such a velvety and creamy texture that is just beyond luxurious. This smoothie pretty much tastes like a mild sweet cream with a gingery zest. 

So I’ll shut up now and give you the goods.

Smoothie: Beet + Apple + Avocado + Ginger

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 1 Beet
  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Tbsp grated ginger

Directions:

  1. Juice the apple and the beet in a juicer
  2. Blend apple/beet juice with avocado and ginger 
  3. Drink
  4. Feel good about yourself… but don’t get crazy
